What is a support system? The definition of a support system is that you have a network of people that can provide you with practical or emotional support. These support systems will help you improve your overall health and have been shown to reduce stress and anxiety.
There are many practical benefits to having supportive relationships, such as knowing people who can provide you with information, advice, guidance, and also tangible support, such as assistance in times of uncertainty. This feature of social support can be comforting and enhance your feelings of security.
Do you have a support system? A support partner, someone you can call when you’re in trouble—even more importantly, someone you can call when you’re really full of joy? Are you part of someone else’s support system? Are you a strong support partner? Social ties are good for us.
If you want to make changes in your life, it’s very important to develop a strong support system. You need somebody to be there for you, and you need to be there for others. Learn how rewarding it can be to help someone else. Being part of a strong support system can change your whole life.
When you begin to look for some support, become keenly aware of the environment that surrounds you. Think of the people you interact with at home, at work, or when you’re relaxing. Are they positive people who make you feel good about life? Do you feel uplifted by them? Or are they oozing negative energy? Are they always complaining about something? These are the people who can’t wait to tell you who’s getting a divorce, who’s having money problems, or who just got fired.
Negative people suck the life out of everyone with whom they come in contact. After spending time with a person like this, you may feel deflated. If you’re trying to find your inner power, the people with whom you associate can be of great help to you. On the other hand, they can also be a great hindrance in your achieving what you desire. Choose your companions carefully. Finding some positive friends will give you a terrific start to a healthy support system.
When we begin to step towards our higher, better selves, having a negative support system is not in our best interest. It may be time to find some new, positive support. If you’re truly serious about breaking through to your highest potential, you may want to spend less time with some of the negative people in your life. Getting a constant stream of negativity from the most important person in one’s life would hold anybody back. What’s so interesting about this is that this negativity is usually a demonstration of the spouse’s own fears and insecurities. The negativity can be your spouse’s way of exercising control over your behavior.
All of us need encouragement. Whom do you turn to when you need some encouraging? Who will give you the words of encouragement that will propel you closer to your goal? We want to create relationships with those who have visions and goals, a strong purpose and passion in their life. Find out what it is that allows them to fuel that passion and continue to move forward. Most people who have high energy and passion are looking to support others to achieve their own highest good.
As you go about your life, cultivate awareness of the kinds of things you’re exposed to. Are you hearing positive, supportive messages, or do you have a steady diet of crime, sorrow and negativity? If you’re not getting positive messages from the people, the music or the news media to which you’re exposing yourself, it’s time to make some changes.
Examine the support system you currently have. Keep in mind the value and significance of a support system and consider the people in your life. Do they exude positive or negative energy?
